With Avanan, Check Point strengthens the security of collaborative cloud suites

Check Point has announced the acquisition of Avanan. This start-up offers a multi-layered security offering for collaboration solutions in the cloud.
Israeli cybersecurity publisher Check Point Software Technologies has got hold of its counterpart and compatriot Avanan for $ 280 million. The latter is positioned as a specialist in the protection of cloud messaging. Its technology will be integrated into the consolidated architecture of the acquirer to strengthen its messaging security offer. Check Point has known its interest for a long time, since it has already been offering it as an OEM to its customers for three years.
One-click deployment
Based in New York and founded in 2015, Avanan offers a multi-layered security offering meant to deliver comprehensive protection for cloud solutions such as Office 365, G-Suite, Teams, Slack and other collaborative SaaS suites. Its platform is designed to be deployed with one click through an application programming interface (API). It prevents compromise of business email and blocks phishing, malware, data breaches, account takeovers and shadow IT across the enterprise.
“More and more businesses are turning to cloud messaging platforms. With email becoming a major channel for launching devastating cyber attacks, this acquisition has huge potential as organizations seek a new approach to email security and collaborative suites, ”said Dorit. Dor, Product Manager at Check Point.
The funds that bet on Avanan have had a hollow nose
Currently, Avanan serves 5,000 customers through which it protects 2.5 million mailboxes. Between 2014 and 2018, the company sold 66% of its capital to various investment funds for $ 41.4 million. The amount granted by Check Point to take control shows the significant value taken by the publisher in a few years. Gil Friedrich, its CEO and co-founder, said for his part that the agreement with Check Point marks the start of a new chapter in the company’s journey to reinvent email security: “By merging with Check Point Software, we combine the best artificial intelligence technology, which captures the sophisticated email-delivered attacks that everyone misses, with the unmatched security capabilities and threat intelligence of Check Point Software. ”
