The Ministry of the Armed Forces recruits 770 cyber-combatants

To cope with the increase in cyberthreats, the Minister of Arms intends to hire nearly 800 additional cyber defense specialists, in addition to the 1,100 hires initially planned by 2025. The positions will strengthen the teams of Comcyber Rennes, but also the DGA as well as the DGSE.
During the FIC (International Cybersecurity Forum) which is currently being held in Lille, Florence Parly, Minister of the Armed Forces, decided to increase the number of armed forces assigned to cyber defense. The 2019-2025 Military Programming Law (LPM) devoting 1.6 billion euros to cyber defense provided for nearly 1,100 additional recruitments in this area. “Given the proliferation and seriousness of cyber attacks, I have decided to step up recruitments during the 2019-2025 period,” said Florence Parly. This pool will thus be reinforced by 770 additional recruitments, bringing to approximately 1,900 the number of cyber-combatants who will join the Ministry of the Armed Forces.
Open to all, hires are made under different status (military, civilian, reservist) to candidates whether they are experts, managers, or first job. Covering a wide spectrum of activities and operational missions, most of them concern technical profiles in the following areas: software engineering (expression of needs, design, development, etc.) administration and evaluation of systems, IS security, IT control defensive and watch on social networks. The Ministry of the Armed Forces is also looking for linguists, psychologists and specialists in international relations, because for Florence Parly it is “essential to have a detailed knowledge of the different cultural and political environments in which our armies are engaged”.
Some of the recruits will be assigned to Rennes within the Cyber Defense Command (ComCyber), a unit created in 2019 and placed under the command of General Didier Tisseyre. Others will join the General Directorate of Armaments (DGA), as well as that of External Security (DGSE).
